The cool, emerald-green southern acres of the Republic of Ireland are steeped in history and tradition, with County Kilkenny one of the loveliest regions. The resort lies in 17 acres of glorious parkland, and the Abbey itself had its beginnings as a 13th century Carmelite nunnery and gave refuge to Oliver Cromwell three hundred years later.

Traditional and atmospheric, the manor house adjacent to the ruined abbey contains eight self-catering timeshare suites furnished with genuine antiques, four-poster beds and cosy leather sofas set on polished wood flooring. The coach house and stables have been converted into two-bedroom cottages, with the same attention given to detail and ambience.

Live entertainment, TVs and fully-equipped kitchens in the suites and cottages are provided, and walking trails in the extensive grounds follow the steps of the abbey’s inhabitants over hundreds of years. A restaurant, bar and cocktail lounge, day spa, grocery store, golf course, fishing and horse riding are all nearby, and the peace and quiet of this unique property have to be experienced to be believed.

The tiny, unspoiled village of Knocktopher with its pub is one of several charming settlements in the area, and famous Kells Abbey is just a short drive away. Scenic drives through the mountains to quaint fishing villages past waterfalls, along with Newmarket with its Famine Cottage and craft shops give unique memories, and Waterford is just 30 minutes from Knocktopher.
